So, you want to know about my transition from the high-volume Sales’s Team to the dominating force that is the People Operations Team?
The first thing that should be noted about the Sales Development Representative (SDR) Team and program is that countless individuals are dedicated to your success as an employee—immediately upon walking onto the sales floor! I want to personally thank Hannah Jones, Riley Harbour, Paty Feregrino, Marc Fannin, and Jorge Gomez for training me and making my GoSite experience!
Before I found GoSite, I worked as a student admissions representative at San Diego State University. My primary job was to sell the school to prospective students and parents as they embarked on one of the largest decisions of their children's lives. The experience was great for about two years, but I found quickly there was little professional advancement and opportunity for me along this route. I knew it was time to move on...
When I began my journey at GoSite, I had no real experience in a start-up environment or any idea what types of opportunities were available to me. I seriously thought, "oh, I'm just an SDR intern with no real power and 90 days to make something happen." Boy was I wrong!
Paty and Jorge—my SDR managers at the time—would constantly remind me that although metrics, quotas, and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) were important, having fun and staying loose were just as critical to the floor's success.
The team was electrifying!
Riley, director of sales development, welcomed me with open arms to the floor. Immediately, the sound of ringing gongs and a high-energy sales team sold me! Between the big energy and watching sales professionals in their element, it was hard—even as an intern—to imagine working anywhere else.
However, I knew in myself that my ability to bring people together and formulate great teams would be best served in a different department. Hannah Jones, GoSite’s senior recruiter, was the key component in paving the way to the People Operations Team. My relationship with Hannah continued to develop month after month as I remained on the floor with the sales team.
It was critical that I consistently hit my numbers, developed stronger relationships with managers, and stayed dedicated to my goal. Eventually, I was asked by managers after six months to apply for a management-level position on the Sale’s Team. The shift lead position came naturally to me as I trained a number of new SDRs and made more connections within the company.
After another six months, the team I helped lead was the top-performing cohort on the floor and records were being broken left and right. My group of SDRs were killing it and I knew it was finally time to take the next step in my journey and join the People Operations team.
Finally, upon my (recent) graduation from San Diego State University, I was offered a position as a full-time recruitment coordinator on the People Operations Team. Little did I know that my manager would be the same person that gave me the opportunity to work at GoSite in the first place.
Our professional relationship both in and out of the office made it possible for me to showcase my skills and demonstrate the versatility I could bring to the team.
While it wasn't overnight, I trusted that my hard work would pay off. Now, I enjoy the company on a whole new level and I hope to be with this amazing team for many years to come! You can join too by checking out some of our open positions below.
